Simulated Dialysis Treatment

Chris Bates
Hi all,
We have always carried out a 1 hour dummy dialysis at the end of a service. Usually 600ml i.e. 10ml/min for ease.
I know Fresenius don't do this.
Do you all do a dummy treatment or am I just being old fashioned ?

Hi Chris,

No dummy treatment for us - just a T1 test and a heat disinfect.

We perform a dummy run to check UF accuracy, obtain Na sample and double check that everything has gone back together correctly.  Only 15 minutes required for the Braun equipment.

I run a 1 hour UF 1.0 litre after service and certain repairs on the 5008, to satisfy my soul

No simulated treatment done as standard at service on the 5008, T1 pre treatment and ongoing circuit integrity self tests only for the volumetric system. Still do for the remaining 200S machines we have

Can anyone tell me if they have ever had a 5008 machine fail a sim treatment for UF error outside of spec?

I can see the need for the check on a system with a flow cell, I struggle to remember a failure on a volumetric system though?

I suppose all the accuracy we go down to goes out of the window when the patient steps on the scales?
